Now that the ice has had it's way with us, we're into the sewer back up time ! Lots of polices affer this as a separate item so make sure it's added if you want to be covered.

Had a call about earthquake coverage recently, I get one about every six months or so, people are usually suprised to learn that earhtqukes are NOT covered under regular polices ( at least the ones I've seen anyway). What's odd I find is the premium for this cover is kind of expensive when you think about the area we are in, I always thought that an earthquake was a remote possibility only, but judging by the premiuim........ maybe not, maybe they know soemthing I don't. Anyway, all for now....

Thankfull winter has released it's icy grasp, and not a moment too soon either. Had lot's of ice backup on rooftops. Remember, you always have to make sure your policy has either an added endorsement to cover this, or is broad enough in it's definitions to pick up as part of the basic policy.

Speaking of rates going down, our fearless leader ( Dalton) thinks rates are still too high. From some of the things I've been reading, returns for a lot of companies are eroding a bit, but they will be fine I'm sure. I think rates will continue going down as companies go for bigger market share. Just reading the most recent book by Donald Trump, no mention about the insurance part of his "empire" but, he is sure right about a lot of things. Especially that you always have to have the best people you possibly can on your side, and to always work at keeping them motivated.

Good news, just read that car insurance on Ontario has gone down in the last 6 quarters, including the most recent 1/4 ( 4th of 2006 down 0.16% ) for a total of 6.61 decrease over this period. I get asked a lot about what will happen to clients rates. Insurance companies always change rates by average, so one group of drivers may get a larger decrease/increase than another, depending on lots of factors, ( eg: postal code, age experience driving record ect ect ect ) some may even go up when an average is showing as having gone down overall. So it's impossible to really tell what going to happen to a persons rate ahead of time.

What a great city Toronto is, we are doing a lot of marketing to the T.O area, and people are really nice, we really are lucky to live and work in such a great place.
Further to my last draft, Furs are limited too by the way, max amount of 2000 for theft under most policies. Speaking to someone the other day about a laptop that got stolen from their work. Personal use laptop is okay, if it's a laptop used exclusively for work.... 500 off premises limit applies. Remember to always check your policy.

Just a couple of thoughts that have recently occured to me while reviewing some house insurance policies. I find people are quite confused about how water damage is covered by insurance. Generally, and mean generally, water damage needs to be sudden as in a burst pipe ect. Maintenance type stuff, or leaks are not covered. The other thing is, that the special limits part of policies should be reviewed by everyone, especially the limits for theft of jewelry.
